About Harbour

Harbour is faith based, community-focused organisation with a vision to provide much needed services to the local community, across Crewe and South Cheshire.  Our primary focus is to equip and empower individuals with the skills required to navigate the storms that life often presents us with.

Harbour exists to help people of all faiths and no faith and provides support for everyone in the community, regardless of age, gender, race, disability or religion.

The Harbour team includes experienced volunteers, mental health professionals and representatives from a number of local churches.  The team has come together through a shared passion for improving and developing what is available for our community so that all are able to enjoy a high standard of mental health and emotional well-being.
Positive mental health is important for the well-being of an individual, enabling them to cope with change, transition and life events.  It allows individuals to reach their full potential and contribute to their community.  It is more than the absence of illness.  It is about being able to live life to the full.

History

The founding of Harbour was motivated through personal family experiences of mental health services and support in the area or, rather, the difficulties in being able to find high quality, flexible support and services.

It began with a Carers peer support group for those who love and support people with mental health challenges, meeting in the evenings when any other carer groups met during the day.  Since then the vision for Harbour has widened in scope to provide support and training throughout  the community.

Harbour Today

Harbour is now providing support for everyone to manage their own mental health and is running 12-week courses which help to develop skills, strategies and resilience.  We recently hosted our first our first mental and well-being conference which included several very effective workshops and an international speaker.  The next steps in our journey will include the provision of Mental Health First Aid training for local churches, charities and voluntary groups and the expansion of our well-being groups network .
